I've seen two different Maverick Gas Caps for sale on eBay - one has the steer-head emblem and the other the word Maverick in the middle. Which years were these different caps used, or can either one be used for any year?

I have never really seen a rhyme or reason to what caps go on what year. I think it is more important to look at the back and see what type of "ears" it has on it to see if it will fit.

there are also the regular caps and the "Deluxe" caps. I had the deluxe caps on all three of my other mavericks and really wish I had kept them all. There's one NOS "deluxe" cap on Ebay right now that the guy thinks he is going to get $175 for it. Hope it isn't anyone here but honestly $175??? get real:naughty:

Sorry you got took. I didn't want to pay over $20 bucks (including shipping) for that one. I prefer the steer-head design. I'm bidding on another one now that looks good in the picture. I hope it turns out as good as it looks.

There's a Delux Steerhead cap with the silver steerhead on the black background for sale for $175! I don't know who's crazy enough to pay that much for a gas cap, but not me! I'm crazy, but not that crazy.:16suspect

I won the other one, and it had a gouge in it too. Even worse, it didn't turn enough for the steerhead to be upright. I sent it back and the seller refunded my money including the shipping. I finally got one that isn't perfect, but very nice, and cheaper than either of the other two.

I was a night manager at a Shell station in Milwaukee in 1977-78. We had 12 full serve pumps and 4 self serve. Self serve 89 octain regular was 55.9 a gallon and full serve (cause we had a car wash too - free with a fill up) was a whopping 72.9 a gallon!

We had a cabinet with at least 200 - 300 gas caps in there from all the self serve customers that would forget to put the cap back on. Self serve was a new thing around that time and many people forgot their caps. I wish I had all those caps to ebay right now!
