Is there a cut off date when the cars considered to be 1969.5 actually became real 1970's? I just got my report back from Ford and my Maverick was built October 27, 1969 at the St. Thomas plant. I always remember the new year models being introduced in September. Seems like my car was built after the 1970's were available but with some left over 69.5 parts. I always considered my Maverick as a 69.5 due to it's package tray ignition & small transmission tunnel. I never had anything "Falcon" in my front suspension either. Both rear shocks are also mounted in front of the rear. Any thoughts?
Like the Mustang before it, the new 1970 Maverick was introduced in the spring of 1969. That is all I remember. Dan
The title will say 70. There were a few minor differences on the 69.5 first run of vehicles. One is the ignition mounted on the package tray, instead of the column. anyone care to list the others?
As I remember, they weren't advertised or sold as 69.5, but as an early introduction to the 70 model. "Course I could be wrong in my old age. Just how I be memberin'.
Jerry is correct,, like the 64.5 stang, 63.5 galaxie and the 69.5 maverick,, which have all become in the know terms, due to the nuances of their respective differences to the actual big number production. All of the above were titled as 65, 63 and 70 model cars. Dan
Mine is, in fact, titled as a 1970. I did a search and read a lot of the posts and my car is certainly a 69.5, like I believed. I just thought that by October 69, the Mavericks would have already been changed over to the more common specs.
I have owned over 100 cars in my life,,,many have been titled as wrong years. It happens. Here in Illinois when it happens I just take the title to the DMV and they verify the VIN and simply change the year due to the previous titling mistake. But if it has the ignition difference, then it is a 69.5.. or really a 70. Dan
Dan, if you think cars are bad, or the DMV with cars, how about RVs? Sometimes a chassis may not get used until a year or more after it was built. You may buy what you think is a new RV but the chassis may be a couple years older. The coach manufacturer says it's a 2007, but when you get the title it's listed as a 2005 because of the chassis.
The Ford History 999 reports have been know to be wrong. Mine was when i first got it. I had them send me another one.
If it means anything, my Marti report also states October 1969. It matches the 999 report. Maybe it's the last 69.5 every made.
They started building Mavericks in St.Thomas sometime before April 1969, they ran 70's for almost a year and a half. What are the last 6 numbers of your serial number?
I would have assumed the cut off for the dash ignition switch would have been the end of August. I think the locking steering column was a federally mandated thing....as all 1970 cars were the first to have locking steering columns. I would be really surprised to see one built in late October. On the Marti Report.....when does it say the car was ordered?
