lowering a 74

    Hey guys- my son and I want to lower our 74 car. Because I bought the car already built, I'm not sure what rear or frt springs are on it, nor does the previous owner. Where can we purchase 1 and 2" inch lowering blocks for the rear? I'm goin to cut the frt springs by 1 coil and work from there. Its a blown 302 car with a 9in rear, if that matters to anyone opinions. Any suggestions are appreciated.

    1966 Mustang, 1972, 73, 73 and 73 Mavericks
    Cutting 1 1/2 coils is pretty close to what most end up with when they shorten the springs. I suppose you know not to cut them with a torch so that needn't be said. After you cut them give them about a week to settle after you cut them. The lowering blocks should be the same as the Mustang blocks. They use the same 8 and 9" differentials and about the same spring thicknesses.

    Thanks Paul- you don't happen to know a source for those Mustang blocks do you?

    As for cutting 1-1/2 coils; I wouldn't cut more than one full coil from old springs. New springs are okay for that, but with old ones, doing so could drop the car much lower than what is desired...

    thanks TL- I'm going to go slow here...first 1 full coil , then reinstall and check how she sits. Maybe another if necessary, but I don't want them to be too stiff either.

    After you reinstall them, wait at least 24 hours. Mine dropped overnight. 'Really surprised me, because at first, I didn't think I had cut enough, but by morning, I realized I had cut almost too much....

    Lowering blocks can be bought at most part places... I know my Pepboys and my Kragen both have them.

    I have a set of fairly new 4 leafs that I had rearched to make them lower. I took them off because they were too low to get my car on & off my trailer. I'm in MD so maybe we could work a deal if your interested. Email me direct.

    17x8 Mach I wheels. I'm not sure about the hood either. Didn't much like the GT scoop.

    drop spindles

    A friend has 2 inch dropped spindles from I think fatman. I believe they were designed for the granada.

    Thanks guys - cut 1 coil and like the results, much better. May try some 1" blocks for the rear and see where we end up.
