how do you get the heater controls out of the dash, I cannot get the knobs off the sliders with out breaking them? or maybe thats the only choice
To get the heater controls out of the dash, you have to remove the instrument cluster first. To remove the instrument cluster (IC) first, reach behind the IC and squeeze the plastic clamp that holds the speedo cable to the instrument cluster, remove the two screws on the front top of the instrument cluster, pull the top of the cluster downward, and raise the lower part, then out (they're are two tabs at the bottom of the cluster that must be "disengaged"). There are many ways to remove the knobs. Using a pair of needle nose pliers behind them, and some leverage, they will pop off. Obviously put a cloth barrier (or other anywhere you will be prying). The heater control panel can be removed by using a small flat-head screwdriver and some prying (obviously use a rag or other to protect the surfaces). There will be 2 or more screws holding the heater controls to the BACK of their mounting plate. Remove those. You can then access the heater controls via the IC hole now. 'Did it yesterday.
