Hello all and TY for creating a site JUST for Mavericks/Comets. I hope to learn as much as I can by joining, as this Maverick will be my FIRST project car, EVER! Y'all seem like a fun and interesting bunch and I hope to learn, share, laugh, and explore right along with you! In advance, please forgive me though, as I am VERY limited with my online time... I'm a F/T horse trainer and F/T mom... Therefore, I'm always broke and never have much time to myself... Ugh, did I just say that? The Maverick was actually always special to me, as it was my first car (Daddy wasn't happy). What a beauty too, though she wasn't at all original... 3 speed on the floor, 302 bored (not original), Mustang 2 susp, kickin' sound and was candy apple red - that's back when you could still get em cheap and totally redone to boot (to the times)... Cough, $2500 in 1992. I saved for 9 months working p/t at Daddy's grocery store. Only took me slightly less than a year to let a friend barrow it (and I NEVER let anyone drive it) only to have it towed out of someone's pond, after she hit a tree, not 10 minutes from my house. Friend was okay, but my poor car... At any rate, and many years later, I am THRILLED to again own a 1970 Grabber. She's in decent condition/excellent project condition, and we just brought her home today! I drove her around the yard until she died in the middle of our back field... After towing with the tractor, she's now sitting right in front of my hubby's "garage" or his "workshop" as he calls it, and he may actually let her be housed inside for the comencement of my resto work. Of course he will, lol. I have yet to name her... I'm a chick, so I HAVE to name her... I will actually be doing a majority of the work, as I am a farm girl and can hang w/ the best of y'all . Of course, I will in reality probably just be doing all the body work alone as I honestly have a knack for metal work, welding (I get a pretty good bead), and cosmetic work. Hubby may need to get involved w/ the more technical aspect of it all... Grr... Thankfully, he has a soft spot for Mavericks as his first car was a 1972 Maverick... Awwww... I'm gonna wipe his 67 "Tang" roadster off my windshield though when I'm done! Think, think, THINK... HELP! Yee-haw... I love this car, even in it's preliminary stage! I actually want to do the engine switch first so as to keep it running. I have a 302 that has been machined 30 over with all the extras, and an adequate temporary C-4 tranny, while the C-5 is being rebuilt. It's just sitting around so why not??? Just have to replace some seals on the engine and flush it good, as it's been sitting ever since it got back from the shop last year. Oh, BTW - I already know about the whole floor pan deal as well as how HARD it is to find parts - No money in it for the big guys I suppose... However, does anyone have a list of Ford vehicles that CAN be used for parts w/o much modifying, inlcluding after market parts? Such as rear ends, disk breaks, Master Cylinder, sway bars, FLOOR PANS, ect??? Also, where can I post my needs, as they come up? I will also be looking to get rid of some stuff such as her current 250 Engine (no clue as to the miles, runs though), Tranny (eventually), front bench seat (maybe), rear end, ect... Although, wouldn't it be great to modify the originals? Never mind... SORRY FOR THE LONG POST! I just never know when I'll be back on here, though it will be weekly, for sure. Keep up the GREAT work! I will be checking out as much as I can over the next several weeks... "Don't have a motto", YET!
Welcome aboard...great to have another knowledgable female Mavericker with us. I bet you'd get along with Jean Doll very well. I'm sure you'll hear from her very soon. We'd love to see some pics of your project car as soon as you get a chance to post them. Good luck with the car!
Hello and TY for the welcome. I was actually checking out your rear tail light panel, on your picture, a couple of days ago. I'm thrilled that you actually responded to my post! I'll surely check out your restoration photos. Looking forward to speaking with Jean Doll actually, she's pretty close to me, being in PA, and I have been interested in some of her posts on this site. Thanks again!
Howdy and Be sure to check this link: http://www.maverickcometclub.org/calendar_of_events.php3 Our annual show will be in Dullas, VA. Hopefully you will be able to attend.
Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you'll be fun. (oooh....ooooh, can I be the first critic? I'd rework the C4 instead of the much heavier, power-robbing C5). Good luck, have fun, and post plenty of pictures when you can.
To the Board. What part of Va are you located. Im in South Central Va myself so maybe I can help Y'all out with some parts as you restore your Mav. Later Tim
Hello and Welcome: I am keeper of the 1970 Ford Maverick Grabber registry...so I would like to add your car to my registry. Also....the Maverick Comet Club International, Inc. (MCCI) will be holding their 14th Annual Roundup Nationals near you in Washington, DC July 24-29. Check out more at www.maverickcometclub.org Edit: Looks like Dennis (Mavaholic) beat me to the punch.
Welcome to the board! It's good to see another lady on board who isn't afraid to get her hands dirty. I know exactly what you mean about finding time to work on the cars when you work with horses. My stepfather and I used to raise Arabian Horses some 20 years ago. Lots and lots of time, work and money involved with those horses. Now the horses are gone and I spend almost all my time with a different kind of horsepower. If you can possibly get away for a few days, you really should try to make it to the All Ford Nationals in Carlisle PA on June the 1st-3rd. It's the biggest gathering of Fords on the east coast with a pretty strong showing of Mavericks and Maverick owners. We would love to see you there.
welcome to the board. good luck with the car. list your wanted parts here in the classified forum. also check out ebay. not too many other cars body parts will interchange.
