On the back page, they have a feature called "Rear View" showing vintage pictures. This issue features a shot from a 1973 drag race featuring Bruce Sizemore's H/Modified Production Maverick. In a nod to his class designation, the car was called "Preparation H". It featured a 6 cylinder motor. It is a good picture, showing the car climbing hard on the suspension. There also is a mention of other Mavericks that were used in drag racing .... the G&R Tijuana Taxi and Ohio George's Multi-Maverick. They also made some vague reference about it being easy to swap bigger engines into these cars .... LOL.
The magazine business runs a couple months out into the future. That is how you see Christmas issues of Better Homes and Gardens on the newstand when it is just Halloween. It is a way to stretch some shelf life out of them. Most Monthly and Quarterly publications do this. About the only accurate dates that you will see are weeklies, like National Enquirer, Weekly World News, People, etc. At least the dates are accurate on those, if little else of the content is ...LOL.
Here it is. Notice the scoop is offset to the carb side of the six banger. Also notice the cool white bell bottoms of the track crew. Where where you in '73?
There is a good article on how the Preparation H sixer was built on fordsix.com "Preparation H article". MD
