Well it has been a long time since I have been on here. Lots of things going on in life. But anyway I have finally got to a point that I can work on my Mav again. (Had both knees replaced last year. One in Jan and one in Jun). As some of the old timers here know I was working on a 72 Grabber, well I have since changed it up and am now working on my 69.5. I have gotten all my front end parts changed over (Struts, Rack and Pinion, Disk Brakes and the shock towers cut back and re enforced). Today I got my rear suspension all mounted up all except the spring pads welded in place. (9" rear end from a 59 Fairlane with 3.70:1 Trac Lock, Watts Link, Disk Brakes, Home made Cal Tracks Bars). I narrowed the back half of the floor pan 6" (3" on each side) A set of 28X10.5 sit in there with room for another 4" of tire. I have the seat rails fabbed for the racing seats I have and the roll cage is almost done. Yes I know THIS THREAD IS WORTHLESS WITHOUT PICTURES! I will get some taken and get them posted in a day or so. If there is anything that someone wants specific pictures of let me know and I will get them posted. I am glad to be back working on my cars and I will be back on here a little more in the upcoming months. Mav on people!
I am looking at the bottom of the rear shock mount. Is it only welded by the tab on the bottom of the housing? Any vertical gussets on the front side of the tube?
OK, I was busy today. Got the engine and trans in the car. The passenger header fits like a glove but the drivers side is a whole different story. I do not have them done yet but to put it lightly I had to completely re design them to fit due to the rack and pinion. And here are some pics of the progress.
OK, a little more work done in the last couple of days. Got all the lines ran except the fuel. (PS lines, Trans lines, Engine oil lines). Got the fuel cell in and plumed to the fuel filter. Fabbed up a trans cross member for the C-6, just need to grind the welds a little and get it installed. So here are the pics.
Been busy the last couple of days. I didn't get to work on the mav this weekend so I have been hard at it the last 2 days. On Friday I got the rear wheel houses all welded up and cleaned the floor so I could Rust Bullet the entire floor. Paid extra attention to the inside body from the body line up. So yesterday I got all the rest of the roll cage welded in and all the rear package tray and trunk lid braces welded in. Then today I got all of the Fat Mat installed on the floor and the inside roof. I still need to do the inside of the rear quarter panels but that will come tomorrow. And now for the Pics.
I am now very close to being done with the Mav. This has been a learning experience for me. Finding out what parts fit with what parts. OK, this is what has happened in the last couple of weeks. I installed a A/C heater box in a non A/C car. This opens up a whole new can of worms. I used a 72 Grabber wiring harness for the whole car. It was just easier with the A/C and Sport lamps. I made an adapter plug for the ignition switch. I ended up having to cut down the stock package tray by 1 1/2 inches so it would clear the heater box and mount properly. I got all the wiring done for now (No stereo yet). Trunk done, seats and seat belts mounted. I also mounted a set of stock seat belts with the 5 points so I do not have to mess with them while I am just cruising around. Got the trunk carpeted and about half of the former back seat area carpeted So I fired up the car and put it in gear, it shifts through all the gears and has reverse (HooooooooooRa). Got a few other little things done today to finish it up. Now I am just waiting on my paint guy to move so I can get it sprayed. Going with Hot Rod Black, going to leave the hood with the carbon showing and paint the scoop the same as the car. I still need to drop off my windows to get them tinted. Will take the back window and the 1/4 windows at 20% and the door windows to 35% Legal for Kansas. The pics of the gas cap are to show what I did to mount my master battery switch (Maverick straight up and down = Battery Off, Maverick as it should be = Battery On). The steering wheel I chose due to the appearance of it having a horn ring like the original 69.5 had. I think it looks really good. Well that's about all for now so here are the pics.
