I have been trying to get my secondaries to open for quite a long time. I actually bought another carburetor, a Summit 600, seeing how my throttle bushings were wore out in my trusty autolite 4100, 480 cfm. Summit is good but it likes its gas, and I'm getting the car ready for a trip out west this summer. I thought I should reinstall the autolite for better mileage, so I rebushed it and rebuilt it. Ran awesome, real smooth but just didn't have the same power. Anyway, the issue was the throttle cable. It just wouldn't pull the plates open enough, not enough stroke. I ended up putting 3/8 shims behind the accelerator mounting plate (where it pivots under the dash) and this adds stroke to the cable. What a difference, I never had full throttle when I floored it before. Scared me a couple times. Let me know if there is a better way to adjust the cable please. The petal also doesn't bottom out on the carpet anymore. Also, I've been suffering with a wah wah wah noise forever and realized my transmission mount was torn in half. I have one ordered from summit. It's an anchor industries 2253, which cost $3.97. Does anyone know if this should fit a C4 in our cars? A friend lent me a used mount for the time being, it's used and rough, but the noise is about 75% gone. Sorry my posts are always long.
sounds like youre getting it figured out. keep plugging away at it and eventually one day all youll be messing with are little cosmetic things like chrome door locks
yep.. bad mounts eat rear seals and even the front u-joints if you drive them too long like that. The worst longer term cases can even eat the internal case bushing as well.
Yes it is leaking. I'll tap in a new bushing and seal. I remember scooper went through chasing a noise for years.
Yes he did.. but remember that some of that turned out to be exhaust resonance and vibration due to improper shielding/separation of exhaust from the body.
I suppose anythings possible if something's a bit out of balance and exacerbating the issue but I would guess the front u-joint or pinion angle would be a more likely candidate to that type of issue. Problem is there's just soooo many things that can cause these types of issues, not to mention the individuals perspective and loss in translation when looking for help from others when sight and sound unseen. Heck, even internal bushing/bearing wear in the trans itself can add variable too.
I have a vibration at highway speed while on throttle, I guess I better check the tranny mount. It seems harmonic.
