Hi guys. Simple quick question/s here. I'll pose it in a few different ways to hopefully avoid confusion and needlessly wasted time. Comet's obviously have a bigger front schnoz than the Maverick's upswept nose bulge but I am speaking towards the rest of the hoods dimensional and raised center section width here. Basically, skip the front most center section and compare the rest of the hoods dimensions. Are the Maverick flat hoods nearly identical to the Comet hoods aside from the frontmost proportions? More specifically.. are the outer body lines of the hoods raised center section identical in width between the two hoods heading towards those front nose differences? And yet another way to make sure I get the correct info I need here. If one were to tape stripe both edges of the raised center section leading up to the nose differential sections.. would the tape stripe be identical in width on both hoods? Thanks for any info in advance.
lol.. it was the same question posed in enough ways to hopefully avoid confusion and more wasted time. Never said nothing about ANY wasted time, now did I. Course.. all this nonsense doesn't answer the question any better. So, I take it that you may not know the answer, Frank?
If someone has examples of both hoods, tape a big sheet ofpaper down and do a rubbing of the body line. Then you can lay the two papers flat and measure the lines or even cut them out and lay one on top of the other to compare them... Just a thought?
I'm interested in more height under the hood for some modifications on a 250 intake setup. Measurements appreciated: Maverick hood vs the Comet hood at spring towers inner shock bolts and hoods' center relief height above a line between spring tower shock bolt ( for possible usable difference) . seems simple ... have fun
Hmm.. slow veteran crowd lately. I thought the hardcore and longtimer guys would know this right off the top. Without having a Maverick hood to directly compare dimensions here is what it looks like to me. Over the years and more recently I've looked at nearly every single pic on this server and virtually every other server in cyberworld of Mavericks and Comets. At this point I'm confident enough to wager bigger bucks that the Maverick and Comet flat hoods are IDENTICALLY DESIGNED SKINS all the way up towards the nose section where they change designs(see the red box's below). This includes the inner structure and framing aside from the extended nose section being added to the Comet hood. Based on the Mercury's late arrival to the party, I would have to guess that Fords original hood design of the Maverick came first and then the Mercury division revamped it with their traditional nose job and their prerequisite fancier grill and tail trimmings. Angles are slightly off here but other pictures also show the same. Stretching the alphabet all the way out shows that point A to point Z is the exact same on both models. Both models also have identical hoodlines/center section heights of point A and point Z until beveling more quickly to the Mavericks shorter nose. Basically, same exact skins and frames.. with Mercury's typical Barbara Streisand nose treatment.
Yep.. me too! You know how it goes sometimes, Bob. Don't even ask the silly questions and just put in the time to figure it out yourself.
