does anyone know how the Consolette was mounted in the car , (bolted down or did it just sit in the middle? And what years were they available?
Look here for mounting instructions: http://mmb.maverick.to/threads/consolette-clock-wiring-harness.93664/ Micah
Thanks I tried finding something like that on here but wasn't able to find it , do you know what years they were available ?
Curtis, I suspect that cars with the later dash which included a glove compartment would not have needed a Consolette. Micah
The clocks never seemed to work right. Kboldin wrote a thread on how to basically rebuild/tune-up the consolette clock. http://mmb.maverick.to/threads/consolette-clock-repair.97582/ Not all consoettes came with clocks. There was a block-off plate that was used to fill the hole if there was no clock. The plate was black plastic and just had the steer-head emblem on it.
The consolette was offered in 1970-1973 Mavericks and 1971-1973 Comets. As Paul stated above, Mavericks could be ordered with or without the clock, all Comets came standard with the clock if the consolette was ordered. Attached is a page from the 1972 Mercury Accessories dealer booklet. The same OEM clock was also used in the consolettes that were offered for the 71-73 Ford Pinto, the Pinto consolette is different from the Maverick consolette, but the clock was the same. Also, due to the shape of the trans tunnel, the consolette for the 1970 Maverick was different than the consolette offered for the 71-73 Maverick.
Does anyone know what the difference was ? Was it all wider or just the bottom a little wider I can find a 1970 but not a 1972 I wonder if I could ale it work ?
