Since buying my 2012 F150 new, I thought how nice that combo would be in my other Comet project. The engine isn't so wide, transmission I haven't really looked at too close. But it would be cool to make work. Thoughts?
I think it would be a cool combo!! I bought a new 2011 Mustang with the 3.7 liter V6 and a 6 speed manual trans. I did all the bolt-ons (throttle body, full exhaust, ported intakes, CAI, tune) and swapped the 2.73 gears for 3.73 gears. It made 305 RWHP and 280 RWTQ with those mods. On big and littles with bias ply tires the car ran a best of 12.60 @ 109 MPH with a 1.60 sixty foot time. At the time that I traded the car in on a new 4WD truck it was the fastest all motor 3.7 Mustang in the country. The record has since been lowered to a 12.27 by a stalled automatic car. My car weighed 3,280 with a 1/4 tank of gas and the big and littles without me in it. Put that same setup in a 2,800 pound Maverick or Comet and it would be a bottom 12, high 11 second car that would still get close to 30 MPG on the highway. Me likey. Fun looking sleeper(without the slicks of course). And just imagine what big boost numbers or healthy shot of nitrous would do to that thing!
There are guys that have run mid 10's with power adders (Procharger, turbo, nitrous) on these motors in the '11-'14 Mustangs.
yep.. and last I heard the Cobra Jets were already into the 7's too. We've come a very long way since the 60's and much of the newest racing tech has trickled down into the old iron too. Of course tire technology has helped the effort immensely as well. While I do love the sound of an N/A motor living on the edge of literally grenading itself to pieces.. I will admit that I'm looking forward to seeing a hotrodded Ecoboost V6 in one of these little cars. 450 horsepower is only a few simple boltons away with that particular platform.
Even the 4 cylinder Ecoboost that they are putting in the '15 Mustang would be a fun setup in one of these cars!
Count me in as well. I'm seriously considering doing a 5.0 coyote in a 83-86 T Bird down the road. Just have to find a low mileage, pristine Bird. No more unibody up restorations for me. The 3.7 liter in the Maverick sounds well worth the effort as well. If the electronics don't scare you away, I would say, "Do It"!

Yea, I've watched it too. This car has been relisted a least once and still falls short of the reserve.
Holy crap!.. that's got to be the nicest one I've seen in many years. Talk about a good clean baseline to start a hotrod from. And that motor would fetch at least a few bucks to recoup some of the cost with it's well documented ultra-low mileage.
