Ok borrowed a pic from club cobra and modified it for my use, from what I can figure there will be 5/8" of the input shaft sticking into the pilot bearing, and the input bearing is 1/2 inch deep/thick and sticks out a 1/2 inch from the block plate surface (please correct anything I may be wrong on) my crank is deep enough to not worry about the input shaft bottoming out in it and causing a thrust bearing problem, I am worried about the bearing retainer interfering with the clutch disc, I don't think it will but not sure, and also a bit concerned about having full clutch disc travel both ways on the splines, look this drawing over and see if you can spot any potential problems and let me know please, Thanks in advance!
do you have the pressure plate you will be using? still need to mount onto flywheel to get height dimensions of release fingers so you can calculate whether or not front of bearing retainer collar will interfere. Also, for the most part only .500" (1/2") travel is all that is required to disengage the clutch. what set up are you using, transmission, bellhousing, adapter plate etc....?
I will check that tomorrow, have to get a better grade of bolts to attach it, any thing else you can think of please let me know.
make sure you use grade 8 or better pressure plate bolts...........from your profile, I gather that your motor has been balanced/blueprinted? Was the flywheel you are using balanced along with the rest of the motor? If so, it is good idea to have your pressure plate neutral balanced or at least checked so not too throw the rest of your motor assembly off. You spent alot of money on that motor, do not risk taking a chance on pressure plate that could be off so so.........then there is dialing in your scattershield.......
Yes that's what I am going to get is grade 8, they were closed today, motor was B/B and flywheel was balanced with rotating assembly, I didn't think of the pressure plate needing balancing, so I will look into that thanks, as for the dial in, eventually will get there lol
Sorry missed part of this yesterday, got the grade 8 bolts today and promptly broke one off torquing the 30 ft pounds in the flywheel...ok It's a TREMEC 5 speed tranny, bell is Lakewood SFI scattershield, adapter plate is homemade, clutch and pressure plate are Zoom products, and pilot bearing is roller, Hydraulic clutch.
sorry to hear about broken bolt, if it is 5/16" then 30 ft/lbs is too high, grade 8 torque should be 23-28, so would keep it 25 and using a little anti-seize on threads. If you really want good bolts, ARP p/n: 150-2201 for 1985 and earlier or 150-2202 for 1986-95, cost around $12 for set, best money can buy, stronger than grade 8 too! so gather your 5 speed uses hydraulic slave mounted on tranny or bellhousing and plunger pushes the clutch fork/throwout bearing?
Yes slave is mounted to two of the bolts holding the bell on, it was the recommended torque for the pressure plate to flywheel bolt is why I went to 30 ftlbs.
