Rear End Size Identification

    This is from a '72 V8 parts car I bought for the swap parts. The other day, I noticed that the rear cover was different than my '73. I found out that the one in the '73 is the stock 8".

    What exactly has someone put in this '72 car? With the rear plate, it is either a 7.5 or 8.8. From visually looking at it, which one do you think I have? I haven't jacked it up to check the ID #s yet.

    It's a 7.5, the 8.8 cover is more of a rounded square.

    Hmm. I have no idea either. I hope it isn't the 7.5, but the way my luck goes...

    thats a ford 8.5. it was the predecessor to the 8.8 it was only around for 78 and 79. their are no parts available for it.

    its the ford 7.25. do a google search. it was used in falcons mustangs, 69.5 mavericks, and pintos.

    In other words it's been swapped or this it isn't a factory V8 car...
